If it saves me buying another battery I use what I have. When I bought the regulator I envisaged coming off the main batteries but things evolve along the way.
As for why the regulator? I thought a regulated 7.4 constant was a better alternative to a fully charged 2s Lipo at 8.4 volts that will ultimately run down to well below 7.4

If it fails on a sail day I still have 2x 6volt BEC wires on the ESC's to keep going, quite easy to put the pin back in

Perhaps in the fullness of time post COVID I may get to see how long Tuggy will run non stop. If that proves to be a positive I'll likely remove both LiPo and rely solely on 40ah of lead but who knows  %%

I do know that Portgarth will run for an hour non stop at near full speed with 14ah and brushed motors. Tuggy is much bigger much heavier (more than times 2. 33lb v 75lb)but superb props that draw little current at fair speed, I expect 3hrs of average sailing with brushless being far more efficient but we'll have to wait and see

Driven by Friday night TV I'm bored enough to cut out the openings for the XT60 panel mount plugs.

Price of these is crazy. This UK seller is £2.99 for ONE or £5.99 for FIVE  %%
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Amass-XT60E-M-Surface-Mounted-Male-Connector-XT60/313020628842?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=611712947231&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Anyway in the absence of their arrival I've calculated the fixings in preparation.

Andy,

Out of interest the results you posted a video of
21ah is that one motor?
Will you be running the sla’s in parallel?

Seems reply alerts have stopped ?

Hi yes 21 was one motor. No need for parallel was one battery to each ESC

Andy,

I would of thought it best to run in parallel.
Entirely up to yourself of course.
I’ve been speaking to Oceanworks and they are apparently working on a
Proportional
360 degree servo
30kg torque
6v unit

Does that mean you won't be posting the build here any more?  {:-{

Hi Andy,

From a really selfish point of view, please continue to post updates here as I only use facebook on my phone. Don't ask... but you don't get the photo resolution on a phone...

I have been following the build on FB and it's a monster job and a master class in tug building.

regards
Ant

Nothing to do with watchers or participants. I don't really want to open a can of worms.
As an aside topic alerts are still not working.

Very sad to see no more updates on this. I was enjoying watching your process.  Hopefully you won't revert to just Facebook.

Hi Rich
Today all posting was halted by a facebook BAN. A simple post of a photo from my smug mug gallery triggered world war III
Somehow their Robotic moderation decided it was narcotic related and against community standards.
I objected to this via their yes/no interrogation system and this went on to a review where they concluded the post was innocent  %%  no sh1t sherlock
However despite being cleared of wrong doing they (real people) never thought to unblock me  >>:-(

Posting other than today's experience has been excellent. I can start a post in the morning and add photos to it all day long as I progress. There is absolutely no editing time limit on an Authors posts so this is much more convenient and the feedback is incredible as the group is tug specific. I hope you'll give it a try.

EDIT still not getting topic reply notifications.

The build is probably close to 200 photos further down the river now

Hi Andy, thanks for the reply. I don't get notifications anymore by the way either!  I just know to check a few threads of interest.

Looks like you are set on Facebook now -somethimg many of us don't use, hence why we join forums.  Nothing tempts me to it at all if it's a secret group.

Good luck with your build, I can only hope you put back on here. You don't have to post every step (I don't post build blogs on any forums now), but it's important to keep forums going when we have interesting things to show.

Thank you.
Perhaps if the new Captain of the ship reconsiders editing time limits rather than patronising me about how to blog? I've put four years of effort into supporting Mayhem I feel a little let down.

Hi Andy do hope your problems are resolved soon along with many others miss not only the photos but the write ups on the build very interesting reading. I used to follow Brian's build with the same interest and that is what draws me to this forum keep up the good work and all the best                                                                                                                                                                                             Towrope.

Hi
I posted in so many places recently that I had to settle on where was easiest and the most interactive.
On Facebook I can start a post in the morning and edit all day long to add pictures as I progress meaning I’m not sitting down using up lots of time composing one post.
30 minute editing time is just no longer satisfactory fo me.
The best place to share tugs is in a tug group where the interest is greatest.
If there is ever a change I will resume
Cheers

Edit
The model tug group is moderated by the Boyd bro’s two of the best tug builders  :-))
