  Hi Martin,
       I would give this a very wide berth, with no disrespect to anybody suffering mental health or addiction problems form experience working in the prison system for twenty years (I did have keys by the way) this could turn into a can of worms especially should a club be visited by some of the "allegedly" recovering drug/drink addicts and something untoward occurring. This is only my opinion.

Addiction is a terrible mental condition, having support to overcome it is always a good thing provided it does work for the individual affected, the offer is only good for those who reside in the area mentioned, so would be no good to those who live elsewhere, so the link would only be helpful for a select few.


In our 'HOBBY', our addiction is worsened by the shutting of the local model shops, the reluctance by local authorities to cater for a now 'NICHE' group, and the rise of the only tech people want to get involved with being that found on the personal communicators (phones).

One last comment from an external contributor....

Having just read the thread on mental health within Merseyside, to many people who suffer either addiction or mental health seldom want people to know of their plight as they feel that they have failed. That is the worst that they can do. I have suffered from depression and anxiety for many years due to problems that developed during my years teaching and those same problems manifested in to me having to retire early from the profession, and i thank god that I had family AND friends who would listen to me when i was down and depressed. Model boat building and sailing was one big release in my life, other than my family who all knew of my illness, and Yes, it was and is an illness, that comes and goes but never goes away. I HAVENT READ BETWEEN THE LINES AND THOUGHT 2 AND 2 MAKE 5 as it seams some posting on that thread and would urge that members don't scoff and sneer, and if any member of mayhem want help from that or other groups then they should approach them, and not to be embarrassed about telling others that they ARE depressed and suffer other mental problems. I am not afraid to admit of my problems, just as i don't cover up my problems with the recent cancer scare, or obesity, and neither should anyone  be in that situation where they need to hide their own mental health problems.        I am probably too late for you to publish this on that thread, but I feel that anyone who needs help with this very acute and fast rising illness, then they can do worse than check out such organisations before dismissing them out of hand without first checking them out. After all depression is a world wide illness, not just parochial to a small area like Merseyside. Lastly may I wish all those that do suffer from depression and anxiety all the best, let it out into the open, and don't bottle it up. you will feel better just for doing that. I find it helps to be out in the open about mental health and the more people realise that and let it out instead of bottling it up as a taboo thing the more people will listen and open up.....and that is the first stage of dealing with it....as I found all those years ago.
