Radio Control set-up problem
« on: December 03, 2007, 05:02:19 pm »

 ???Hello again,
In building my Support Vessel, I am now endeavouring to get prop to turn and rudder to move.
I have a Viper Speed Controller marked "Marine 15" which connectes direct to the battery. The battery wires are coloured red/back and one is all red. The colours of the speed controller wires to the battery are yellow & blue.
The servo has 3 wires red, yellow & black these connect  into the receiver. The wires from the speed controller to the receiver are Brown,Red & orange.
PROBLEM:-
My transmitter is a Zebra 3 FM. According to its instructions the right hand toggle is the throttle/speed controller and the left hand toggle is for steering. Now, when I activate the toggle for speed nothing happens except the "Servo" gives  a "kick". When I activate the steering toggle my motor starts and gives me various speeds etc. Something is not quite right and I am a loss on the cure. More confusing the various ray of wire colours. Doesn't seem to be any co-ordination between them
You may gather from the above that I am definitely new to R/C so any help would be appreciated. many thanks. Bernard.

Try swapping the plugs into the receiver round.

Well I don't profess to be the best but like you I had to start some where.
I am not O-fay with your trany but I would say is find out what channel the motor should be on and what channel the rudder is that is to say I think your channels are possibly incorrect at the receiver end of the system.
Try swapping the ESC and the servo leads
I take it that you are using the BEC from the ESC which means you don't need a separate power supply for the receiver. (if you have a separate power supply then remove the red wire from the ESC plug (or do away with the separate power)
Make sure that your trany has full batteries and that the Ariel is extended (I learnt that having it pushed in was not good)

You may have got a typo in the post as you mention that the wires from the controller to the battery are "yellow and blue" these go to the motor....

I fear you may have misread your instruction leaflet. Diagram B - Layout shows the left hand lever (the one that goes forwards and backwards) is the throttle and the right hand lever (the one that goes left and right ) is the steering. From what you say it seems your system is working correctly. Are you getting a full range of movement in your rudder servo and proper control from your E.S.C ? Catengineman is right when he says you don't need a separate power supply for the receiver if using the B.E.C.
Incidently I've been using a Zebra set for several months now and find it to have good range and work well.
Hope this helps to "get you going

Thanks for your help Catengineman & Westcoaster.

I have followed your instructions and at first I got full servo control with right lever. The prop turned for forward motion but this lever was set to the reverse. Having played around with wire swapping(No not the missus) I now seem to have total control in the correct order.
However when I then go back into it again having switched off previously, the motor acts in the reverse manner to the above in other words correctly.( This message has been paused for about 30 mins whist I tried other things)The Esc is a Mtronicks which has to be set-up. I thought I has achieved this earlier on, howver I set it again following instructions lamb & lettuce. It looks like I now have the correct control so I will press on and complete the build. Once again I am indebted to you both. Bernard. O0 O0 O0
