well most people that i talk to about model boats always seem to switch off after a few mins, Most of my friends think its boring, and that i should be doing more productive things, but they just don't understand. There seems to be a good following for 1/10 rc cars, and i don't understand why people view that as exciting and model boats as dull. anyway, this got me thinking, why couldn't an electric small scale class be started, with a motor limit, cell limit, and size limit. i mean really quite small like 30cm, or so. or a 1/12 crackerbox class? they are fairly easy to construct out of wood, and racing them would be close and fun. small boats like this would be eaysier to find venues for racing too. The local rec pond or lake would be big enough.
Is there already a class like this? demos could be done at local schools, to get more youngsters into modeling, and you could have a modded class too for more experienced modelers. prehaps there could even be a price limit on the motors to keep the costs down. I reccon you could construct a simple boat like this for well under 100 pounds, a price that prehaps newcomers would be more willing to pay than shelling out 100 for an engine or hull alone. The rules for racing would be simple and easy to understand and as long as there are some voulenteers to do the lap counting, clubs need not invest in expensive lap counting equipment. Has all this been done before?
anyway just a thourght.
