The futaba 6 channel is now in town at around 245quid.

You also run the risk of having to pay customs duty if stopped on return to UK.

Modelling in China is not so popular. In Shanghai local people work, work, work. They have money but no time. Most RC stuff is RTR/ARTR/RTF/ARTF.

The BIG shop was way overpriced and only stocked BIG toys. The most famous shop is YiFeng models on Nanjing Road West. It has a small stock, and also has the radio gear.
In Shanghai the Radio gear is mostly futaba. In Beijing there is also a lot of Hitec.

I enjoyed my trip back to UK as I was able to get a wider chioce of what I wanted.
From what I can see, I think the cheapest place to get 2.4ghz is in the USA.

Or come on over to Hangzhou & I'll buy you both a beer at H :o :o ters or any number of pubs we have in the area.  As Tiger mentioned, hobbies are not the top priority here as you see in Hong Kong - below are several of my favorite shops I used to frequent near the old Xiang Yang Market.  The one I now frequent in Hangzhou rivals anything Shanghai has to offer.  O0

Actually if you want to save money on a radio, it may pay to buy a sample direct from the factory.  I have catalogs from several factories who were at the last Shanghai Toy Expo & one recently sent me their new 2.4 offering which I can forward if you send me a PM with your email.

Morning Mark!

Lion Roar is located on Changli Rd west of XiangYang intersection. You'll find them on the right side of the Changli about 50 meters from the end of that block.  Aside from LR's excellent aftermarket line of PE & brass upgrades, their focus is exclusively on military plastic & resin display models in 1/35-1/700 scale.

The other shop is located directly behind the old XiangYang Market 75 meters east of XiangYang Rd.  Not sure the street name, but they are right beside where Starbucks used to be & in the same block where all the offsite counterfeit watch, bag & golf shops were found.  Again, their main focus is on plastic kits & modeling supplies, but they do have some surprises.  Their days are numbered with all the development in the area, so stop by while you can.  The upstairs where the ship models are found is a hoot!

I'll be Shanghai this Friday to pick up my son who's arriving for Spring Break (China??? - I thought college students all wanted to go to Ft Lauderdale & get nekkid!).  If you're free & want to tag along that afternoon, I plan to visit both shops to pick up a few things.  We could then catch up over a few pints at the Bulldog on Wulumuqi.
