At the moment I am trying to get the flower class corvette finished first, then start on the Deans Marine HMS Bronington, but now being retired, I actually seem to have less time!!

I am currently getting back into sailing model yachts after quite a few years lay off. I have several of Vic Smeeds non class yachts, a couple of Marbleheads and an A class currently needing attention before getting back on the water.

I recently joined my local model yacht club and having attended their open 6m event , which included a brief sail of one of the members boats, decided that I needed something to sail without too much work.  Last week I bought one of Hobbyking's offerings, the HydroPro Affinity RG65 kit.

While it goes together quickly, I made the mistake of sticking to the instructions too closely, rather than doing what I am used to. They show a way of threading 3 hole bowsies which I tried , but which virtually guarantees that you will get a hernia before they move !  and they provide a hook to help quick change the entire rig which does not go through the deck eye that it would need to for the jib to come off the boat.    Just proves that you are never too old to learn new  mistakes !     Other that that, it is a nice quick way on to the water

Having completed (and sailed) HMS Cossack from Deans Marine, I'm now starting a MacTaggart Scott cordite catapult, with Walrus Sea plane, ok so it's not a boat / ship, but it was fitted to lots of warships!

Looks like a clone of the Joysway Dragonforce with better sails.
If there are three deck eyes together under the jib, just open the after end of the after eye,
put a loop in the jib boom tie off and thread it through the first two eyes and loop it over the
after one.
Rig changing becomes a doddle.

i have just, this afternoon, cut out sides and ends for a springer. that followed a trip over to mobile marine models, to pick up a motor, coupling, and propshaft (with oiler) to go in it. while i was there, i ordered a variant barge to give me some experience of working with a glass fibre hull, so i have more idea when i start to build up my kingston mouldings minivap tender.

So the old transmitters were not so much solid state as empire state being two foot tall.

What am I building - well as an employee - a business, hoping to keep it 'AFLOAT' and not to 'DRIFT OFF COURSE', I'm also the chief purser (I hope that right) as I deal with the companies funds etc, keeping the 'CAPTAIN' on course as he appears to be related to that of the titanic the way he spends.  %) %) %) %)
its not sank, just abandon ship, mutinied as the captain wasn't sharing out the booty (well wages really), arrr

Hi Ned,

thanks for that. I have had a squeeze of the hook and got it functioning as advertised in the instructions.   As to the hull, there has been quite a bit in other forums as to where it comes from.  As the DragonForce is basically a class within the RG65 class, I suppose that it can't be too far different although the consensus is that they are not the same.  Whatever , it is a nice little bit of moulding in plastic and goes together quickly without too much hassle.   With a bit of luck, it may get its first taste of water tomorrow

I'm just about 80% of the way though a rebuild of the old 'Dutch River', now has a pair of Mabuchi 555's  for power.
Test sail showed plenty of pulling power, so just a bit more paintwork & a bit of detailing to do.

Just completed a scratch build of a swim front Lighter for my TID to tow.

Quite a straightforward if large (40" long x 122 beam) build as its mainly sheet ply and few fittings for what i think is quite a good result.

It requires around 15-20 kg of ballast to sit properly and my tug pulls it with no problem, now to get some towing practice in  :-))

After 3 years collecting dust and cobwebs in the attic my 'Queen' is undergoing a small refit. Planking totally replaced, new motor and electrics fitted, including steam-whistle. New (fake) boiler, similar to that in the film is undergoing construction with the Nemo - type smoke generator involving joss-sticks, Aye! :-))

Letting my inner geek escape for amoment, I found this link http://www.madehow.com/Volume-4/Acetylene.html  to the history of Acetylene where it says that early on, it was known as Carbonised Hydrogen, so the label on the bottle is not necesarily innacurate.

Back in your box Mr Geek  :-)

Not bad smoke generation from 2 incense sticks. 20mph wind outside made it smoke even better!  :-))

Hello !

After " HMCC Sentinel", I am building a yacht : The “Delta-54” is inspired by the Swedish star “Delta-54 IPS” of the manufacturer Delta Power Boats.
