Card / paper modelling anyone?
« on: September 27, 2011, 02:30:49 pm »

I find myself in reduced circumstances at the moment (sans workbench), has anyone here tried card model boat building?

I have the issue of Marine Modelling with the free MV Marwina Model but at first glance it was far too small and fiddly for my ham fisted fingers!

1. Does anyone here do Card maritime modelling?
2. If so, what first model would you recommend?
3. Are there any step-by-step builds on Tinternet anywhere?

I tried an HMS Sheffield from Marcle Models once, never again, far to fiddly, ended up in the bin. Give me something more rigid to work with any day. >>:-( >>:-(

The 'Model Ship World' Forum has a section for card modelling. Sorry I can't get a link but it should be easy to find.

Hi Martin - my dad (Mick Tunnicliffe) is well into card ship modelling..............has done a few articles for both Model Boats and Marine Modelling magazines.

Suggest you drop an email to Chris Cooke at Marcle Models for advice on a beginners ship model - very approachable chap.

Wouldnt recommend you start with the SD14 though...........maybe a Schreiber kit like the Meteor research ship would be appropriate?

Take a gander at his website:

Well there a coincidence. mI was milling around a shop last weekend and found this on the shelf for a fiver.
It's a bit larger than A4 but fitting RC will be a bit tricky....  :}

"Step by step instructions", "Easy to assemble" .... right up my street!   :-))

You could go and get it blown up to a better size, I think that is what one of our guys did.

Rather than redistribute, which is generally considered naughty, site links are acceptable.

This all well and good but I'm not sure I could remember the links to every model I have (at least 100)

Ill make up a list later today of the boats
