This build is on the other site but I will post it on here as well over a period of time, the build is about three quarters done at the moment. I Will keep posting until I get up to my current position, just in case anyone thinks I am a fast builder

The plans are out of MB Dec 2010 by James Pottinger, I have altered the stern to make it flat and the curve of the foredeck was altered later in the build, I am also building it to 1-24th scale.

As this is my first scratch build from drawings, so I studied Bluebirds builds before I started

At this stage after both sides are finished, that I decided that the hump, sorry, the curvature of the forward raised deck was to much, so using a hacksaw blade, two elastic bands, straight edge, and a sanding drum it was altered to my liking.

The next job was to make a capping for both sides out of teak, the two pieces of balsa that I cut to the shape of the hull where used as a template. the last photo shows one side completed

The next stage is the bow protector, this was made out of strip brass, the pieces were cut to shape and tinned, clamped to the bow and a large soldering iron used to melt the solder, this way ensured a good fit, no I didn't set fire to the hull.
Must have missed this bit somewhere, the hull has been sanded and stained and is given several coats of sealer later on, the inside of the hull was coated with Z-Poxy

Rudder support made from brass strip and a brass nut filed to suit, then all soldered together, cleaned up and fitted with two brass 2.5mm nuts and bolts.

After making a mock-up of the wheelhouse out of card, the coamings where fitted for the wheelhouse and the skylight. A servo fitted for the rudder. The electrics fitted to a board that goes under the fore deck so that I can get at the two switches for the speed controllers, one for the motor and one for the working winch.

Pieces of aluminium have been fitted under the deck so that there is something to fasten the mast, gantries and winch too

A coaming made for the skylight, balsa glued to the frames on the raised deck to take the planking.

Planking started on the fore deck using Lime cut from the Ikea blinds.

From the nice job you did on the soldered bow protector, we will be expecting a full hull from brass for your next project.

Planking on forward deck finished and the skylight made.
The Lime planking was sanded, stained and a couple of coats of sanding sealer
Caulking in-between the planks is black fablon stuck to the edges of each plank, a bit of a pain I must admit

Main deck planking finished, sanded and a couple of coats of sealer. I have had to make a small hatch above the rudder, just in case.

So now for the bridge, a cardboard mock-up was made using a 1-24th figure and some photos of fishing vessels earlier on in the build in order to get the coamings in the right place.

The mock-up was used again with slight mods to make the wheelhouse/bridge (never sure which one it is).
Teak is used to make it and the photo shows it nearly complete with a couple of formers in place for the roof. The skylight has been made out of hardwood, not sure what type though, the skylight is a tight fit and I should be able to remove it to get my didget in and get at the switches.

Looks great Alan, nice woodwork all round and I'm enjoying the build.

How do you cut the Ikea slats to the width you want?
and is one size of blind better than another for the solid length between the holes?
I have bought some small replacement slats just to try it out.

Love this build - such 'fair' hull lines................I think this is how I should do the ferry hull plugs
