Photos and videos are nothing like being there, the atmosphere, the comradery, the ability to ask questions,
talk to the manufactures & retailers..... and a great free lunch if you bump into the right people!  :-))

I think what struck me most when looking around was the sheer uncountable number of man hours that went into building all those models. It's quite amazing when you think about it. And it was all good to superb quality stuff too, no sub standard models at all that I noticed.

Your absolutely  right Colin. The models are fantastic and diverse from the static models of the spit head review up to the most complicated submarines. The ingenious  way's that modellers conquer build problems sometimes amazes  me. The quality of the paint jobs are amazing as is the weathering on models.

Well I made it there today, the exhibition area is now larger so more room for clubs, it could have done with a couple more traders but overall still a fantastic show.
I saw quite a few models there I had not seen before, which was good to see. I had a chat with a few of the guys from the Wicksteed club and of course Phil. He tells me he is going to start up a shop in competition with LIDEL, called ABBOTS FOOD EMPORIUM, he has a large amount of stock to start up with, thanks to KLUNK and the Wicksteed club.

No pictures I am afraid, camera has died not sure why.

found this an interesting one Finnjet?

if I heard right met its demise by running ashore and was broken up

turbine sound is quite loud on the video but managed to catch it dropping anchor, liked the stabilisers at side as well

Aye - it's a grand model is that Finnjet.. You are close with the summation of her demise, but she wasnt broken up because she ran aground. She was sailed to Alang (India) for scrapping where, as is usual practice, they run them up the beach to scrap. She got her own back though by bankrupting her breakers as she cost far more to scrap than her value......because she was made of unusually thick and ice-strengthened steel which was not allowed for in her bid price!!!!!

Many thanks for posting the pics and the video Martin, From our point of view(Wicksteed Park) we probably had our busiest year to date especially with the Victorian fleet and vintage boats and kits on the stand. Being situated next to the Action/ Component stand did little to ease the strain on the wallet and with 'Steamboat phil's' stand on our left flank we all just soaked up the humour and quirkyness ( if there is such a word) that engulfed the whole area. Sorry I missed so many of you, Klunk and co., but I can no longer do three straight days on the stand as in past years so needed to take a break.

I found myself staring at Martin for several seconds before I had to be told by Nick that 1. it's rude to stare and 2. it was the hairy top lip creapy crawly that had gone missing and apparently missing for some time, so much for my powers of observation.

Martin I will PM you a few pics of the type of tie that I wear that would still maintain your bright and colourful image whilst retaining the 'I'm the Governor image' that a shirt and tie at these sort of occasions conveys

Well I had a great show, I think my favorite model has to have been the really weathered tug on the Anglia club stand.
I still hurt from all the laughing we had over the show, I do seem to have devolped a strange looking over my shoulder twitch, but at the moment at least I am not seeing strange things on my boats....you know things like, ooohh...the odd toothbrush, denture cleaner, cans of food....and of course hard centre sweets  O0 O0      beware the wikki club.....and of course the Klunk, and it seems a few others.... :o

Great time catching up with everyone amd making a few new friends ( steamboat apprentice wouldn't let me buy and fishing boat from Andy --models by design-- just so I could put Maxine on board......or indeed her alter ego..which made SA blush.... :embarrassed: )

Sorry  missed you Ian, could have planned the big whiz bangs for wikki

Look forward to catching up with you all soon  :-))

Hi everyone, I would just like to take the time to thank all those who contributed to the pool activities over the three days. It was great to have lots of models on the water as the doors were opened to the paying visitors and we managed to maintain a full programme throughout each day.

The Children's Hour on Saturday and Sunday were very popular and hopefully provided inspiration for new youngsters to join the hobby. Many thanks to all those who helped out during these sessions. The crews from the Surface Warship Association and Manx MBC did a sterling job.

All round it was a great show. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves (whether exhibitor or visitor) and had great time at the show. There is no doubt that the variety and quality of the models were nothing short of magnificent.

Thanks everyone.

Hi Steve,

On behalf of the Lifeboat Enthusiasts' Society we would like to thank you for the magnificent job you did as pool master and keeping activities on the pool going throughout the day and managing the changeovers between slots with boats coming off the water and boats going on.
