But the track gauge isn't to scale. At 1:76 it comes out about 4ft.
H0 and 00 share the same track gauge (16.5mm) but H0 scale is 1:87 which is nearer 'correct' for the track.
For figures you could also consider H0. At 1:76 (00) a 6ft figure is 24mm high and at 1:87 (H0) it's 21mm.

Perfect.  Just what I was looking for.  I went to the model shop and bought a pack of 5 for £5 today, to start sizing up doorways etc,  which makes them a quid each...............disgusting profiteering ..

I shall get a batch from China and can afford to wait  4 weeks for the delivery.

Thanks for all your help
Cheers

I bought some of the Chinese figures and they are very good - and cheap. The only problem is they all have black hair, which is normal for Asian people, and they are quite shiny, but that's easily fixed with some flat or semi-gloss clear. The photo below is one I took at a hobby expo back in 2010, it shows the same figures in use on a model circus, owned by a couple of chaps from Toowoomba, Queensland. They told me that they repainted some of the hair to give some colour variation. They must have been busy, because they said there are close to 5000 figures in the crowd :o  a small section of which can be seen in the photo.

If they come painted at that price, that is really cheap.
