Hi,
I have just pulled the dust sheets off my model of MacBrayne's MV Lochiel, she has lain for about four years unfinished, so that's this winters project!

Clark

that's a nice looking model. did you build it from a kit. If so where did you buy the kit.

just finishing off refurbishment of the Boston Blenheim from the deck up over - I have rebuilt it using plywood, better than the plastic that was originally used on the original build and had deteriorated/gone brittle

Hi BFSMP,
I got the bare GRP hull from Waverley Models, must be about eight years ago, there is no kit that I know of, I have built the rest myself, apart from Quaycraft lifeboats and some vents.
I did butcher the hull a bit, as I have the original Denny plans to refer to, the bow was at the wrong rake.
Hope this helps,

Clark

My principle project is HMS Ready (M class Destroyer) and several tugs that need batteries, some electrics and a bit of TLC to get on the water along with a Motor Launch and the Hull pug for an Iron clad turreted Ram.

Is that a transmitter with the white antennae next to the little tool box?

My dad's original transmitter is in the shed somewhere - about a foot square and two foot high.

Built in the early '50's.

Fine model of a famous tug you got there tugnut. I remember the Turmoil in the news when I was a boy when she went to the rescue of the tanker 'Flying Enterprise' and made world headlines due to the bravery of the tankers skipper Kurt Karlsen who would not give up his ship and stayed on board until the last possible minute, but sadly the tanker was lost.

Not even slightly boat related but we finished re-building this for my little girls 3rd birthday on the weekend, it was an ex display model in bare cedar that had had a hard life at our local hardware store, finally someone wiped it out with a pallet trolley, they were reluctant to sell it to us but I mentioned I was a cabinetmaker and could repair most things timber, so we took it home, fixed it up better and tougher than new and put some exterior paint on it.

Not exactly 'building', just 'reconstructing'. O0
I recently acquired an elderly Pilot Boat (built 1982) in a bit of a sad state having been painted with several slabs of what looks like Dulux emulsion! Some parts are missing, the mast, windows, ventilators and mostly small deck bits. It has a GRP hull and ply deckhouse. It measures 72cm long x 28 wide. All it has inside is a motor. prop and shaft. It looks like a speedy hull.
I have started by stripping several layers of Dulux from the deckhouse and fitted a steering servo. Basically, I think with a decent paint and new small parts it will make a nice runabout.
One thing - can anyone help identify the kit?  Here 'she' is ............

Bob.

I see that the huge boxes are not the controller, but just the holder of the gizmology while the controller is a small box with push knobs. Thankyou for sharing the film Mr Nemo.

Excellent refurb on the tree house! Even I would like a place like that in my garden:O)

Have to say, I feel quite lucky that all my RC controllers have been quite light and manageable

I am currently building (very slowly  :embarrassed: ) the 1922 racer Miss Severn from Legend Model Boats.  I was sold on this model after seeing a couple of builds on RC Groups but there is no distributor for Legend in the UK so I had to bite the bullet and pay the carriage from the USA.  (For those who don't know, Legend Model Boats is a very small operation producing short run, high quality kits of unusual subjects, so doesn't run to the international dealer network of the big boys!)  It's a very good, accurate kit (with one well publicised exception where one frame is inexplicably the wrong size/shape!).  Everything goes together very nicely and the hull turns out entirely symmetrical to as close as I can measure it.  The pictures show, firstly, the hull with the first layer of planking (balsa) and then where I am up to at the moment.

I do like shiny mahogany boats!   %%   (OK, it's not shiny at the moment, but next year.....!  :-)) )

So the old transmitters were not so much solid state as empire state being two foot tall.

What am I building - well as an employee - a business, hoping to keep it 'AFLOAT' and not to 'DRIFT OFF COURSE', I'm also the chief purser (I hope that right) as I deal with the companies funds etc, keeping the 'CAPTAIN' on course as he appears to be related to that of the titanic the way he spends.  %) %) %) %)

Having got all the bits out of the box a couple of weeks ago, sorted out and ordered Motor, Electrics, Lights etc. I promised myself that last week I would spend some serious time on my new Lowgarth from Mountfleet Models. Progress on the Hull was good until Tuesday afternoon, when the wife fell over and broke her wrist. I am now head cook, cleaner, chauffer etc. and getting up earlier than a retired man should to walk the dog! I guess another couple of months onto the build time will not really hurt!!
