The hulls are generally GRP and Plastic card superstructure. Nothing wrong with it at all, its the perfect building material in my opinion.

MS kits are excellent and have myself built the Wyeforce tug - http://danwalker.co.uk/Harbour_Tug_html/tugdelivery.html

If your ever stuck, give them a call and theres always a friendly voice on the other end.

Plenty of MS builds on this forum, take a look.

You wont find a better kit manufacturer.

Instructions are good, drawings are good, their web site is full of information and they offer a very friendly efficient service.

There are several of my builds on here if it is helpful.

Excellent kits, you won't find better. Extremely clear plans, top notch instructions, all the backup and advice you'll ever need from Lawrie and Jackie, and for the quality you get I don't think they are at all expensive.

I've built two MSW kits, the one in my avatar, Drumbeat of Devon and the Envoy tug. Both excellent kits. A kind of build log for the Envoy tug is here http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=22375.0

Very good value for money. Think you'll find most kits on the market nowadays use plasticard for superstructure. No problem there.

No disrespect to Billing but there is no comparison in my view.  Have a problem or need help with Billing and Customer Service is difficult.  Have a problem with a MS Kit and Jackie sorts it straightaway.  Best instruction and building guide of any of the manafacturers.

Agreed!

Seriously, this whole change from going from wood to plastic/grp may be radical but what building experience it is! MS are great and in recent times, their inventory has reduced and i havn't opted to build another kit just yet (through personal scale choice) but if the likes of the drumbeat of devon were introduced again, i'd be the first on the list!

Go for it, you seriously wont be dissapointed.. mayhem is impartial to any kit manufacturer, however the views and experience of its members holds the value of this side.

I just received my model slipway Dutch Courage kit the other day direct from MS. I have found Jackie so nice to deal with on the phone & via email. I just spent a few hours today going through the kit & familiarising myself with the parts & plans. I read the instructions over the weekend & have to say that they appear very clear & concise. I was building the kit in my head as I read them. The quality of the white metal fitting are very good & there doesn't seem to be too much work to clean of the casting marks & they seem so well cast in the first place. I really can't wait to get started & am excited by the quality of the kit.

I must mention that I have not built a kit before but feel that with the quality of the instruction & kit & the support of this forum that I have maid the right choice in a model slipway kit.

Regards,

Andrew

Hi Darren, I have just seen your post on Model Slipway Kits. I have been building models for the last ten years a lot of semi kits. I started like most of the forum members building kits and to be honest I have only built one of Model Slipways and I did not have any problems with the build. I now scratch build all of my models but this is my choice, recently my brother decided that he would like to try building a model, and decided on the Our Lass Two from Model Slipway. Considering that he had never built a model in 60 years I thought wow this was going to be a challenge for him. I did not try to talk him out of his decision as I thought that this would be a learning curve for him and if he had any problems with the build I could help him out. When he received the model I was very impressed with the quality of the kit contents and the building instructions. He completed the model without any of my help and I was very impressed with his build considering that this was his first attempt.
I don’t know where you have been looking for Kits but to say that Model Slipways are a bit expensive just has me scratching my head in disbelief. Look at other kit suppliers and work out the true cost of some of their kits.

I finished the MS Loyal Class tender a year ago.  My first build in styrene and I loved it.  As others have said if you need help or break a part and need a replacement, contact MS and they will help quickly and politely.  The boat handles well and looks good on the pond.

Here's my build log, wherein you will see some of my learnings on working in styrene.  Have fun!

Model Slipway can't be beat for price, quality or service, The difference between Billings instructions, & M S instructions is night & day, you will have NO trouble with a Model  Slipway Kit, first class in every way. Mick B.

To my mind that's the right way.
Once the kit is made up for you and ready to ship,
that's when they take your money, not before. :-)) :-))

I don't think billings instructions are that bad granted they could be improved but I thinks it's down to the modeller I'd rather have some thing that is a challenge and means I have to actually think about the stage rather than it all be written out for me

Many people are sure that instructions are optional anyway, but at least with a Model Slipway kit you do get the benefit of the advise of somebody who knows what they are doing.  And if you want to know why a good kit costs what it does, have a close look at  http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=34379.0

Storing made up kits in boxes is an expensive business as they take up a lot of space. Most manufacturers carry a small working stock of the kits most in demand but otherwise they will put them together to order. Just good business practice.

Have to agree with you there Colin.
Lean manufaturing doesn't just help the Manufacturer but keeps the price down for the buyer.
Given that the cardboard box can be as much as 10% of the actual kit cost and the customer is likely to be upset by a damaged box.....
My last car purchase required me to part with £0000's of pounds up front and an eight week wait...

My last Boat Purchase required Upfront payment and a 12 week wait....

And we moan about lean manufacturig creaping into hobby industries?

Go buy a sofa from a large retailer with a higher output to the model boat industry and you hit simiar problems...  Now is their mark up even close to that of a Model boat Manufacturer?
Just thoughts
