please help me to make a 2 way winch from a servo
« on: October 03, 2012, 02:17:40 am »

hi guys this has probably been covered before . im trying to make a drum winch for my tug by using a servo to power it . but i want the servo to run both ways . and not just a few turns . i want it running like a real wince .. how can i mod my servo to do it .... the servo is a standard 3003  .. possibly a copy . but surely one of you guys must know an easy way to do it or somewhere i can buy a cheap one already modified !

dont know if it will be suitable for your purpose, but here is a instruction to modify servos

http://www.societyofrobots.com/actuators_modifyservo.shtml

basicly  you glue the pot meter in place and take off the pin wich rotates it , maybe drill out the big wheel so the slot will be round.
important is that you absolutly center the servo before you start.
after the mod servo will run both ways, speed depending how far you push the gimbal ( depending on servo speed also ofcourse )

Heres one I did earlier.  Servo card removed with the position sensing pot and replaced by one of Action's pico ESCs, the end stop lump removed from the output gear tp allow continuous rotation.  Box from Maplin, ali tubing from B&Q.  String is Ryobi Masterline salmon backing.
