It's not going to be long before I should think about painting the hull. Some of these boats are just bare wood, some are painted...I'm not going to attempt planking the hull, so it's going to be painted...but to resemble wood.

Any ideas on how to achieve that, chaps?

I lived in Phuket for ten years and would often go to our local beach (Rawai) to watch the boat-builders. Their primary tool is the adze, supplemented with a large, portable, circular-saw if they could get a generator to run the thing.

The planks were finished to quite a decent standard, and grown-timber frames were added after the planking - not unlike traditional Shetland craftsmanship.

As Rich points out, if not regularly painted, the timbers soon get to look shabby.

Hi Rich,
PM me your address and its yours.
Its a bit rough, but could tidy up ok, and bit of paint would look the part.
Was all printed in one piece, but is hollow.
Total overkill for a long tail, but I love overkill.

WOW! It'll be the first long tail boat in history to carry a GMC 871 Blower (supercharger) on it- that truly would be overkill in real life

Been doing a bit more to this today, got the rudder servo installed. It will be hidden by the fuel tank cover eventually.

I meant to have added, all the wiring will be hidden under the floorboards. In the bow cupboard is the esc/rx/battery pack, they will be placed on a tray which will slide out for maintenance, charging, etc.

I haven't tried it yet, VNK...although like you, I suspect it may not fit. I'll give it a try his morning and see what it looks like, it may fit with some 'subtle' modifications...
