I knew it would fit... %)  (well, I hoped it would...and it did)

I made up a small styrene tray to fit right up in the bows to hold the Planet rx and the esc (kindly sent to me by VNK) the tray just about fits under the forward deck, and leaves me room to fit a small battery pack in there as well.

Coming along slowly but surely now...

Rich

(With apologies and thanks to Colin-D, the Planet did fit.)

Thanks VNK...I made a bit of a cock of measuring the available space for the battery pack though. The biggest I could squeeze in was a 350a/h LiPo, so a rethink was called for. My Long Tail is now a cargo vessel as well as a fishing boat, there's a cargo of some sort under a tarpaulin on the forward duckboard...it hides a 7.2v 1600a/h battery pack. By the time there's a fishing net rolled up on top as well, it won't show.

{-)  It does look a bit like that, would look even better if you had a stray arm hanging out the side.
Perhaps a few bricks tide to the ropes?

Thanks, VNK...much appreciated.

Whilst watching a repeat of some weird fishing programme a while back, I noticed a couple of Long Tail boats fishing at night, and both of them had a single white light mounted in the bows, just by the forward cupboard, so naturally mine had to have one fitted.
It looked a very simple design, just an upright pole with the light fixed to the top...so, mine has a piece of plastic tube with a 5mm Hi Viz led in the top with the wires running through the tube. Painted to look like a wooden pole, it should be ok.

Talking of painting, I guess the time is almost upon me to get the paint out and get it done, then I can commence final assembly and think about getting it wet.

Watch this space...

I'm thinking now about the scale of this little boat, as I'd like a Asian figure or two onboard. At 24'' hull length, and a shade over 30'' overall length, and with a beam of 3'', what sort of scale do you guys think it could be?
I've tried a 1/14th scale Tamiya figure, but he was much to big...1/32nd are way too small, so around 1/20th ish?

Mornin Sir,

Do what I do on scratch builds.  Make a paper cut out of the tiny person and trim it until it looks the right size.

Convert this with scale program with a 5 foot ten inch person and  Voila.... you have the scale.

                                                :} :} :}

I'll make the first guess at  1:23.

Cheers

Ah, young fella me lad...I've been hunting everywhere for a 1/24th scale figure, I know the little devil is lurking in my cupboard somewhere, but I'm guessing he's camera shy.

Come out, come out, wherever you are...

Time to get this build finished...I had to remake the rudder linkage as you'll see in the picture, I have a new battery ready for it, and a new custom made prop shaft is on the way, so now it's onwards and upwards.

Today I plan to build some detail onto the motor...exhaust pipes/spark plugs and leads/steering handle/and spray the hull insides. Once that's done, I can start assembling everything. I need some small diameter/small bore clear silicone tubing for the watercooling pipes...anyone got any ideas where to get some? All I can find is the wide bore stuff which is too big for what I need.

Bit more done on the Long Tail...I found some clear tube on eBay listed under 'fishing tackle-rig making', so I bought a length of it, and it's proved to be perfect, so the engine water cooling pipes are now done.

I wasn't happy with the rudder servo position either, so I've changed that...it's now hidden away under a large fish box. Waiting on the prop shaft to arrive now...

Prop shaft arrived, so now I can crack on (fingers permitting, in a lot of pain today  <:( )

Any ideas as to how to make a shaft support, chaps? It has to be connected to the motor mount so it can swivel with the motor, so I'm thinking a short length of brass channel soldered to the prop tube and then soldered to the motor mount...any more ideas?

(bottom pic shows the support on a full size boat)
