NEVER PROCRASTINATE MESSAGING GOOD FRIENDS
« on: July 07, 2025, 02:51:02 pm »

About 6 years ago at the Blackpool show I met a fellow lifeboat modeller and we clicked and got chatting.

During our chat I found he lived in Norfolk where my sister and brother in law had lived since 1966, and more to the point he and my "brother", as he was a brother to me, were both in their own religions, leaders of their flock, my brother being a Superintendant Methodist minister and my friend was a Vicker in the C of E Church and would meet at inter church conferences.

His name is John Vinall and lives in Peterborough.

We kept in touch until about last week in March 2024 when jovially he told me that he "was still taking his morphine on his cornflakes", which I laughed about. HOWEVER as John was suffering from terminal cancer, but had been given 5 more years due to the combination of drugs he was on I felt it out of order for me to have had a possitive outcome to mine only 8 months before, and selfishly I prolonged putting off getting in touch via messanger until this morning.

Sadly a message came back that my message could not be delivered,as the adress was no longer available, and am too late to have that last chat with John. And I feel so very sad that I didn't speek to or see him again.

If anyone else on here knew John Vinall who had been living in Peterborough please let me know of John.

I am disgusted with myself for not getting in touch more frequently, and if you do know someone in similar circumtances, think not of yourself and your own feelings, as I selfishely did, but reach out to them with comforting hands, and compassion when they need it most.  <:(

Wise words indeed Neil, I'm so glad it has worked out well. There is an old saying 'procrastination is the thief of time', never a truer saying. I've recently reached the biblical milestone of three score years and ten, so, despite being a busy 'boomer', or tired, or have just had a bad day, I always try to contact old pals via TXT, Email, or phone. Just my thoughts. After all we are an ageing hobby, but also an ageing society.

Cheers to all,

Mike
