Onwards with the paint cans.

The weekend was a smelly few days for fumes as we got on with the paint job.  First job was the lower hull which was under coated and then sprayed with Red for half of the hull. Extra was allowed for beyond the water line mark.

Then it was time to mask off this section to allow the Blue for the upper hull to be applied

The day for celebration has arrived.    ;)  %)  :}  O0

We have FINALLY painted the Blue to the upper hull and here is the result.

I have fitted some of the completed parts and taken her to the garden for a film shoot,  Great joy and celebrations in this house, I can tell you.  Thank God it's all over. What a mammoth task.  Ten tins of aerosol paint, along with half a gallon of epoxy and cloth, semi ruined by a thick Flow coat of epoxy and Six sheets of sand paper.  (and I don't know if it floats yet !!)

and I've still got the decking to cover with paint.   %)

Day off tomorrow while I see the Bank manager for arrangements to get the electronics for her.

Thank you Peter. It wasn't easy, as you gather from my build blog recently.   :embarrassed:

I'm very happy now the mucky stuff is over.  ;)

Hi Ken

Your Severn looks and is fantastic. the speed at which you've created this scratch build is amazing. My 1/12th Severn took eighteen months and that was from a "kit"!

As I'm sure you're aware the deck has a non slip coating applied, and on mine I mixed some very fine sand (courtesy of my friend Phil Locke) with a suitable matt grey paint and it made a very realistic job. If it's not too late, and you'd like some please let me know and I'll post a bit to you.

Thanks for the offer Brian. I'm all right for sand, but I did get gloss paint. Hope it dulls down!!
I'm really looking forward to fitting the "little bits" which should enhance her a bit.  ok2  Yesterday I 'turned' a dowel in the bench drill to make some capstans to go with the home made bollards. Pictures when they're painted.

Thank you Jenno. I shall be at Bryn Bach Park as I do like this lake. Should be able to stretch her motors a bit eh !!   Just don't stand too close to the paintwork or you might change your mind.   :}

I refer to the red section at the stern. You can just see where the masking tape pulled off a bit of paint.   :((

I'd like to thank 'ALL'  the guys that helped me in my endeavours.  Yes, you had me check the drawings yet again. Paint indeed.    8)   We now have something to bring to Wicksteed Park. Yippee.

Hi. Just been bringing myself up to date with your Severn build.  Looks super.
I had some 1/12th scale section fendering made for the Tamar kit which is perfect for the Severn of course (if you haven't already sorted it).  It's just £6 per metre. I still have some D section I used on the Severn kit originally (which was the £40 item) but since it's the 'end of the roll so to speak, £20 to you sir!

{-) Tug---Kenny says ....... "Day off tomorrow while I see the Bank manager for arrangements to get the electronics for her" .... {-) %% {-) sorry Ken.....but I am a bit lost with the translation heeeeeeere  :D

1. is your Bank manager a person of female gender?
2. if so, does she use alkaline or ni-cad batteries?
3. is this a real person from a real Bank [financial institution].......or is it your good wife you are referring to?
4. if the latter part of point 3. is correct ....could I suggest you wipe that white paint of the brown out door round table prior to asking for your funds......... >>:-(   <:( Derek :-))

Thank you for your kind comments, Adrian. I have already got hold of some rubber suitable for fendering, so thanks for for the offer. I may be back for other items. I look forward to seeing you at the Mayhem Bash. I might see something else that I need.

Hi Derek.

You are correct in your thoughts.   ok2   :}   "Er indoors" wanted a day out shopping and as she seems to like my boat now it's painted, so I thought persuasion would be easier now. It paid off and I was able to see  'Our man at ACTion'  for my electrical needs. We could see those big Brass propeller whizzing around soon.   :-))

Took a few pictures yesterday with some more 'bits' placed on deck. Today we fill the decks with Sand and light grey paint.  ooh er !!!

The first one shows the scale of this beast when placed against the good ship Imara before she went to her new home.

I've only got two boats left now, so I have  a lot of spare 'shelf wood' going nowhere.  %)

I've made the grey paint with Humbrol white and a splash of black. To this I've added some very thin sand and brush painted it onto the decks.

This is the final effect which seem to have come out all right.  While this was drying I made a lifebelt holder from brass strip and secured it to the railing.

Hi Reece.

Thank you for your compliments. The Imara has been sold and taken away today, sorry if this is the one you were referring to. Such a nice ship to own that I might make another one, only this time as the 'Perseverance', the War time version.

Cheers

No Problem, Reece.   Watch this space and if she becomes available, you will be first to know.   ;)

It's certainly a fun build as you can see. I like to report  'Wharts and all'   in my blogs because I'm still on a learning curve and want to get it right.   :}   It's nice to know you like it and makes me feel proud.

Thank you,
Ken
