That's another question answered...out of all the batteries I've got, I've nothing like that at all. More expense... <:(

Thanks Ian, you're a star.

These are the Tamiya batteries you require but you can cut the costs by dropping the  mAh. I find a 2000 lasts a few hours if not driven hard.

I have just finished my roadway for the trucks.  I have built the Clifton Suspension bridge as a feature and made a YouTube film of it's construction.

If you would like to see the build, it is now on YouTube  here ..........

Thank you Rich.

Too much for this old Gent.      %%      When stored, it takes up a lot of workshop space.  I'm on a mission now to start selling all my boats before I can start anything else as the next project is the London double decker bus at 1:14 scale.

cheers

This truck caper can get obsessive, I'm thinking of selling a few bits to make some room. I have to build in my bedroom, it's like sleeping in a model shop at the minute.

If these  trucks have a three speed gearbox (which I believe they do?) how do I set up the tx so as I can change gear? I presume it's done from one stick?

hi rich , its normally set up on ch3 , the up/down being throttle - forwards / reverse while the left to right becomes the gearchange , some people make a gate to help gear selection . ive cheated a little as my own tx has a three position switch which im using for gearchange . other people just lock the gearchange to just one gear . i prefer the ability to change gear , as although your plannig a race truck , it could be useful to be able to tow a trailer later on etc !

The gears are quite straight forward.

i.  For 1st gear you hold the LH stick over to the left and push upwards in a straight line to accelerate and pull back for reverse. If you have the Multi function unit fitted then you need to pull down twice as it includes a brake system.

2.  For 2nd gear you leave the stick in the centre position and push the stick straight up and down for forwards and reverse as above.

3. For 3rd gear  (top) you push the stick over to the right and drive as above.

You can see by this that an  'H'  arrangement (with a middle slot) can be used to control the gearbox and keep it in gear.  It is possible to slide the toggle arm over during a ride and jump into another gear.

For this reason, it is normal procedure at club meetings to lock the gearbox into bottom gear with the spacer as provided in the kit.  or you can one stage further and remove the gear servo and permanently lock it in bottom gear, which is what I do.  It saves embarrassing leaps of speed and crashing into others.   %)

Well you did ask.     {-)

Cheers

Yes they do have a 3 speed box, (which you have to assemble).

On one of the sticks it's push left and up for 1st, straight up for 2nd and right and up for 3rd.

But I use a planet T7 which has a 3 position toggle switch which I use for the gears, I can just flick the switch and it will stay in whatever gear all day long until I flick it again.

Very enthusiastic topic.     %%

I sometimes use my Planet on another truck but have this switch on the trailer release mechanism.

You wouldn't believe the times I've toggled it during a run and  dumped the trailer  mid transit.   {-)

Yes indeed.  It's even more embarrassing to pull away from stop and the trailer crashes off.  This is rated next to forgetting to raise the support legs    :}

Oh my gawd...you can see why I prefer auto gearboxes.

I'm sat sitting here, tx in hand, going through the motions..it could be fun out on a track remembering what's what whilst trying to sling the thing into a corner sideways, change down and accelerate, all at the same time. So...you can lock the gearbox into any gear and leave it there, am I right? I guess that will either lessen the acceleration or lessen the top speed, as per full size?

I have the Planet tx, but there's no three way switch on mine...although I do have a Futaba computer tx on 40 mHz, which has loads of extra functions on it...maybe I could use that.

Thanks guys...plenty to think about there.
