I've spotted tonight's deliberate mistake, port should be red and starboard green..............!

Forgot to mention it Ken but why don't you paint your bolt heads with silver metallic paint for more realism? Your boat would really stand out with shiney bolt heads as on the real one.

That's because I had the cabin upside down on the bench, I'll bet. Thank you for that. I don't want to look as if I've learnt nothing.    :-))

yes, Silver would look nicer.

                       Launch Day

Just returned from the Mayhem Annual get together where she was finally launched. I'm please to report that she didn't sink but we didn't secure the propshaft tight enough. The coupling came adrift from the motor and will now be secured with 'Loc tight' next time.   %)

Due to her tremendous weight we couldn't get up on the plane, but she did look graceful cruising around. I've made a short film of the event (also posted in the mayhem get together section)

                  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X0o0rrE8P0

Now back home and fitting the ACTion sound machine and thousands of other little jobs.

Hi Ken,

That looks pretty damn good! Well done on a successful launch!

I really wanted to go to the show this weekend but would of meant a 360mile round trip :(

Hopefully i can make it next year.

Thanks Dan.

Me and another Dan travelled 399 miles loaded up to the gunwhales with boats and chairs. I don't blame you as it does take it's toll.    ;)

No modelling today, just surfing away.

Thank you Richard. It was great fun. I'm glad it didn't go too fast ..... it might have killed someone.   :o            Scheesh it's a heavy un!!

I shall just be working on making her a pretty girl with  'ALL'  the attachments and gimmicks and then start thinking about the next boat.  Might go Yachting    %)

Great to see you yesterday Ken!   :-))

I've been avidly following your build, for some unfathomable reason, I had just got it into my head that your Severn was about 18" long?!?!?!?   :o

It looks great on the water Ken, you must be very happy. It makes all the hard work worthwhile. :-))

I hope I can make half as good a job of my (much) smaller one when I eventually start it. I have to finish my patrol boat first.

Peter.

Hi Geoff. It was nice to meet up with you. Thanks for the compliments.

Hi Martin. yes, she is rather on the large side eh!!  Had the best time in months after slaving over a hot saw.  Thank you for putting on the show. It was the best one yet.  ooh, and thank your lovely lady for the excellent coffee's and cake, please.

Hi Peter. Yes, I'm a happy chappie. Now if I could slim her down a bit, I might get her up on the plane.   %)

Hi Alan. Thank you very much for the score. It was nice to meet you as well.

Thank you to everyone. It makes it all worthwhile.   :-))

Been busy making the Movie for "You tube". Can't send it yet as she's not quite finished.

Also been busy fitting the "Noisy thing" from that lovely man at ACTion.  Scheesh!! you should hear the sound generator running in the shed. The walls were reverberating and the good lady came running out thinking one of my machines was wearing out.  :}  Told me to cut the volume as it was a quiet neighbourhood.    O0  I do have a volume control on it and was just checking the power.  ( thanks Dave for the extra voices in the memory. Well done to you and Flying wombat.)   8)

Hi Ken,

It was great to meet you on Saturday and witness the launch of your "Severn". Congratulations on the fruits of all your hard work, she looks beautiful on the water (enjoyed Scot Joplin too!).

Thank you Mike. I enjoyed my trip up. Best show of the year.    :-))

I've been on the Web looking for  'Sounds' in WAV format.  There's millions.  I've selected an Ice cream van jingle just for a laugh.   {-)

Hi Dan

Yes, Dave has pre programmed the Severn's engine sounds and there are other blank slots for extra sounds like horns and things that can be added.

On the Web I've found various sites that let you listen to their sample sounds but do not provide a downloadable copy, so I have bought my recording studio into play and made my own WAV files, hence the ice cream vendor.   {-)

The more serious sounds of police sirens are easy as I've only to wait outside the gate with a microphone.   8)

Hi Ken,

sounds good!

I'm trying to get my hands on a HQ condensor microphone as i intend to record the Whitby Trent lifeboat and as a special request from ACTion, the our lass II trawler.

Have programmed all my required sounds into the boat and going well. Time to knuckle down to the bolt fixing.

I have made the imitation bolt heads from 3mm hex plastic rod. This was cut into 2mm widths and laid onto sticky tape ready for spraying silver.  Very time consuming and tedious but worth it in the end. It's possible to get over 100 from each hex rod, but some still fly away, never to be seen again.

These were then individually glued into place all around the boat, which took the best of a week.   O0

Here's a picture of where we are at. She is now almost finished (are they ever ?)

                            Crew time

Being  'mean'  to the "N'th" degree, I have decided to make my own scratch built crew members.

First I started with some Starship enterprise characters. (Thanks Bosun for pointing out these, as they were the correct size)

I shall relate the story bit by bit,    as a picture tells a thousand words.

These were then coated in 'Milliput' which moulded beautifully and was a joy to work with.

I then started painting them with 'Plastocote' yellow, which was a very quick drying paint indeed. As it turned out, it dried too fast.  The paint was pulling even as I was still applying it.  :((    It was also impossible to get a straight fine edge as the stuff was very thick.

This, of course ruined the paint jobs, as can be seen below.

Thank you Fatcat. Much appreciated. She is nearly finished, so I am thing about getting on with my Aircraft carrier.  Should make a nice change.  Mind you, there's a coal house to build first.    :}

on with the paint story ............

The whole lot was then designated to the paint stripper bin and cleaned of all paint.
