We had a shower early on, a couple of rumbles of thunder around 0400hrs, but now it's as black as yer 'at out there, not looking good!

Good luck with your weather!!

How we all doing with these airboats? Still not run mine yet, every time we get a calm day it rains...we get a dry day and the wind blows half a gale. I've changed the radio from the supplied 27Mhz AM set with that horrible pistol grip tx to a 40Mhz conventional radio, much more comfortable to hold, and fitted an Mtroniks Viper esc, with reverse function.

It also has a pilot fitted, affectionately known as 'JD', aka Jack Daniels. Not too sure about the tattoos though...

having fitted an inch extension to the bows , its slightly better but still ships some water ,  its also badly affected by cross winds but im operating in an area of open sea water !  airboat two is under construction , being made from yellow insulation foam coated with polyester resin , which when completed should be unsinkable ? ?

I've seen airboats made from foam before...brilliant idea, and as you say...totally unsinkable.

Good luck!

when it looks more like a boat i will post some pictures ,  its intended for our 14 year old grandson to operate , he used mine last week , kids only seem to know flat out speed even when there is a stone wall in its path !

Well a few more modifications, as in The hull is now the correct width !! to the plans, Was amazing on how much better it performed on the water..  Just need to widen the cage and then it is ready for the group race.. Also had to dismiss Captain PostMan Pat as he just caused to much wind resistance, now under the command of Captain Scooby..

Oh yes and a better paint job..

Well after the straight running competition with my STEAM boat and 14 points, I took out Scooby 1.  I assume that the captain Scooby knew something I did not as I managed to flip the boat twice ! (was a tad Windy) however the inside of the boat stayed dry and after letting the access water drain off the decks it was off again..

What I had not thought of at the time when upside down was if I had applied throttle would the prop have turned ?.

Oh and its amazing where all the Camera's appear from  <*<  hope to get a shot of it in turtle mode..

i dont get much of a problem of the boat flipping , but have a constant battle with water over the deck , & nose diving into waves ! , hopefully the mk2 will be a drier model !

i get my own share of wind thanks , yesterday gusting at around 30 mph !  ive increased the height of the hatch coaming to 1/2 inch high on my mk1 see what happens later ,

this is my mk1 , the mk2 is still on the bench , with its ski jump style nose has become 10 mm longer , but remained at 200 mm beam , ive made it around a foam core which ive then coated in polyester resin and glass matting , as ive found the mk 1 slides better for it ! power is to be another 400 brushed motor does anybody have any recomendations as to a better variant ? this model ive placed the motor pylon onto a 1/8 ply panel which is removable from the hull , the underside of this has the rudder servo , the esc and an rx

In the past I've built quite a few of these generally IC but a few with electric. I'd make a couple of comments.

1. Torque reaction can be a problem you need a beam of around 1/3rd or greater than the length. my Lesro airboat would torque roll with a 35 on it if you bashed the throttle open. Opened slowly it was very quick.
2. Tractor is a better design (prop first then motor), pushers limit your prop choices & are more expensive.
3. You need an adjustable thrust line as this & C of G are critical & you generally need downthrust to get a decent trim.
4. Raking the rudder hinge line like an aeroplane helps keep the bows up in turns & encourages the correct lean.

the mk1 has a slim packer under the motor pylon which has allowed the motor to have a very slight upward angle to it , should i not have this ?   im currently using a 6x3 prop without a gearbox .

Nope you need downthrust to lift the bows not up thrust. Draw a vector diagram & it will show it.

sorry not heard of vector diagram ? as the packer is under the leading edge of the  pylon do i need it at the trailing edge instead ? it does have a tendency to try and bury the bows under the surface if i hit a wave !

Draw a side view, draw a line forward through the thrust line, motor shaft, the bottom of the hull (Waterline) has a line drawn pointing backwards. So the thrust line is above the waterline wanting to rotate the whole lot bows first into the water. Tilting the thrust line down towards the waterline lifts the bows. You'll only need 3-6 degrees or so.

Errr Yes & Yes. I had a TR7V8 for 7 years, had it completely rebuilt by Robsport at vast cost & then decided I'd fallen out of love with it & sold it. Now into Porsches with a 944. Pics of the 7 are here:-

I've completely refitted my Alligator airboat, it now has a Planet5 2.4gHz radio, runs on a 11.1v lipo batteries, and has a 3 LED Ultra Brite flashing red light fitted.
